Using Wedding Technology On Your Big Day

There’s no denying the role that technology has played in each aspect of our lives, making it a little bit easier and a little bit more entertaining!
It shouldn't come as a surprise that technology has grown tremendously in the wedding world too, and there’s no shame in utilizing even a little bit of technology to spice up your big day. Although there are certainly plenty of couples that would prefer to keep their weddings unplugged to enjoy the moment (which we totally support!), we see more and more couples eager to find ways to incorporate technology into their wedding day!
Social media has played a big role in letting friends and families from around the world know what we’ve been up to and how we’re doing. So many different social media platforms have emerged, and it seems more are being created every day (have you tried Byte yet?). There are so many ways to utilize these platforms to share your celebration with everyone!
One long-running trend that is widely known across all boards is wedding hashtags! Creating a hashtag for your wedding allows you to follow any post from family and friends that pertains to your uniquely created hashtag! You have to opportunity to follow the very beginning of your hashtag to the very end to see how people enjoyed their time leading up to, during, and immediately following your big day! I love seeing the cool and unique hashtags that people come up with! Some of our favorites from clients at Woodland Events have been frelsweddingbells (last name Frels), tohaveortohodapp (last name Hodapp), and alwaysandforeffer (last name Effer). Of course, they don't have to be based on last names; feel free to get creative!
For a small fee, Snapchat will allow you to create and design your own custom filter based on the location you define! They offer guidelines on design, date, time period, and geo-fencing. Pro Tip: consult with your photographer on their favorite Snapchat filters before you jump in to design and your guests' photos will look a little more consistent with your professional photos.
And of course, there's TikTok! Need I say more? I’ve been so obsessed with watching these videos lately and I can’t get enough! Can you just imagine all of the endless possibilities of TikTok videos that you can create that will be everlasting memories for you and your guests? Perhaps your first dance will be the next one to go viral!
If you used a hashtag, Snapchat filter, or TikTok videos for your big day, let me know in the comments below! I love getting to know the creative side of our readers!
Live streaming platforms give a great opportunity to share your wedding day with those who cannot be there, especially in the age of COVID-19 where we cannot all physically be together in one space. These platforms offer the chance to share your big day with loved ones and make it just as meaningful! Um, hello! Did anyone else cry on the recent episode of Some Good News with John Krasinski and the unplanned virtual wedding he put together, or was that just me?
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to streaming your big day would be to make sure that you have someone designated to control your live stream. This makes for smoother transitions from ceremony to reception, and it allows you to control when interruptions are and are not allowed at any point during the stream.
Did you know Woodland Events offers live streaming services for weddings? We'd love to take the setup, streaming, and crowd control out of your hands so you can just focus on getting married. Reach out to us at email@example.com for more information!
Thanks to our friends at Disney, projection mapping has become a huge trend for cakes and décor in the wedding world! The first time I saw this, I was literally jaw-dropped! Who would have thought that projection mapping could be an actual thing on cakes and be used for décor? Not me!
Projection mapping on cakes allows you to display anything you envision on your wedding cake. It could be your names wrapped around the cake, a slideshow of your favorite photos, or even a horse-drawn carriage running around your cake (thanks again, Disney)!
Projection mapping can also be used to decorate your walls, your buffet tables, or even your dance floor!
If you're in Minnesota, AV For You, located in Crystal, is your one-stop-shop for all things projection mapping at your wedding.
Many wedding videographers have been utilizing drones to record amazing wedding videos. Drones capture wide angles from a bird's eye view we don't normally get to see and they allow us to see the bigger picture that we may otherwise miss.
But why stop at video? Some couples have used drones in place of ring bearers to have their rings delivered during the ceremony! What other opportunities can you dream up for incorporating this technology in your wedding?
There are a seemingly endless number of gadgets and ideas for using wedding technology!
What are some of the ideas you have for utilizing technology in your wedding? Let me know in the comments below! I would love to see and read all about them!
